During the early 1700's turmoil within Europe broke loose as feuding countries worried about the Bourbon dynasty and its power.

1.The two greatest powers(Spain, and the French) in Europe,were enemies and both were ruled by the French Bourbons. Other countries were concerned with the Bourbons amount of power, so they started a war to prevent Spain and France from joining.
2. Conflicts with other countries is what started this long, expensive war. The overall outcome is the Treaty of Utrecht which said that Louis's grandson was allowed to remain King of Spain so long as the thrones of France and Spain were not united. They also gave Britain Gibraltar and many other trading rights.

The war was very costly and dragged on for 13 years. Afterward the treaty of utrecht was signed.
Great Britain took Gibraltar and Spanish and French thrones didnt unite. Spain also granted a British company to send enslaved Africans to Spain's American colonies.

The big winner in the war was great britian. from spain, britian took gribraltar, a fortress that contolled the entrrance to the mediterranean. spain also granted a british company an asiento, permission to send enslaved africans to spains american colonies. this increased britian's invovlment in trading enslaved africans.

This would allow Loius XVI's grandson to remain as a ruler, but kept Spain and France from ever joining thrones again. Many countries gained important ground and trading rights.
