The quest among European nations for greater power played a role in causing World War I. By the end of the 20th century, relations among these countries had grown increasingly tense. In Europe, military buildup, nationalistic feelings, and rival alliances set the stage for a continental war. Ethnic conflict in the Balkan region, which helped start the war, continued to erupt in that area in the 1990's.

One argument would be having an army doesnt show that your a peaceful nation. Instead other countries may look at you like a threat. Other countries may look at you like you a world leader though. Its all about who has the most power.
1)Imperialism-setting up empires to gain control of more land, controled by the king.
Militarism-military control over a country.
2)militaries want power so they try to overthrow the king so they can have the power.

1) Imperialism is, by defenition, a policy in which a strong nation seeks to dominate others countries politically, economically, or socially. Militarism is the policy of glorifying military power and keeping an army prepared for war.
2) They both promote war. To take over other countries, a strong country would have to fight for it. And then they would have to keep an army prepared to help control those countries and to battle against others who would defy their power.
3) For one, it does not support peace whatsoever. The army is always ready to fight when they're told, really no questions asked. So in a way there's always tension there. And in another way, it almost like putting the military in power.
