Enlightenment ideas helped spur the American colonies to shed British rule and create a new nation. The revolution created a republic, the United States of America, that became a model for many nations of the world.

1.) To better understand the events that led to the American Revolution, come up with 3 causes of the Revolution that led to the break out of the war and explain them in detail.

1. One cause were the high taxes imposed on the colonists. Like the stamp act which was a high tax on importing and exporting goods. Another thing that lead to the war was the colonists only had limited freedoms.They were still considered under British rule so there probably wasn't much change from being in Britain. One other thing that lead to the war was they were not represented in parliament, but were still expected to pay these ridiculously high taxes. The colonists had had enough and decided to make their own government.
1) The British were passing high taxes onto the colonists... without their consent. And the colonists didn't have representatives to speak for them, so that made them just as angry. The colonists had also been living in America for 150 years and didn't feel so much as Britians as they did Virginians and Pennsylvanians, though they were still expected to obey British laws, which again, they didn't agree with or have a say in. The Enlightenment ideas also spread to the colonists, urging them to become independent.
They started to tax tea so they sumped a large load of british tea into the harbor. On other one was the decleration of independance because we wanteed freedom so we went for it. And in April 19 , 1775 gunfire was exchanged between british and american militia. Then they raised an army led by George Washington.
One event is the creation and signing of the Declaration of Independence,signed by Thomas Jefferson. We wanted our rights and freedoms. The tea tax is another reason making the colonists mad at the British.
But all together the Revolution started, on April of 1775, British Soldiers and American Militiamen exchanged gunfire in Lexington Massachusetts. Which all together started it.
1. The Taxes...Taxation without reprentation...that really upset the people.
2. The colonist had hardly ANY freedoms...they didnt have a say in anything either!
3.They had no voice..so i think thats what really set it off!
1) Like the stamp act was high taxes. One was probably high taxes on the people. Another one is the enlightenment because, it was urging them to become independent. One last thing would be they had limited powers and they thought that if they went to war they would be able to get more powers for themselves.
The British needed money to help pay for one of there war. the French and Indian was left a huge debt on the British. To get money they taxed the colonists. The colonists hated the taxes the said it was "Taxation without Representation". Since they had no represenative in parliament they should have not been taxed. The colonists had heard the ideas of philosophes and liked them. They decided to fight for there freedom to create a government where the people had the power. After the colonists won the war they created a federal system and a bill of rights for there people.
1) 1. High taxes, they didn't like the "Taxitaion without representation" they didn't like that. 2. They hardly had any freedoms, they didn't have any control. British had the power. 3. They didn't have any person in parliament, so when new laws were passed they didn't have a say in it, because no one was supporting them. They didn't like this ovbiously, it caused them to revolt.

-People didn't like the way the king of England was treating them
-They wanted their own government so they could have a say in what the country did
-also, they wanted to be independent so they wouldn't be taxed unneccisarily
Taxing the colonists was a big cause of this because, they thought they shouldn't have been! The freedoms that they had were very limited by the Britsh:( The "set off" of the American Revolution would probably be the exchange of gunfire in Lexington.
