1.)It included most of the Pacific Ocean and its islands, excluding the Philippines, Australia, the Netherlands East Indies, the Territory of New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. The Pacific Ocean also excluded China and mainland Southeast Asia. It takes its name from 30 March 1942 when it became the major Allied command. It was simply known as "Pacific Ocean Areas". The war was mainly of planes, submariens, and boats.
The Pacific War began on 7/8 December 1941 with the Japanese invasion of Thailand for the invasion of British Malaya, and the attack on Pearl Harbor in the United States' Territory of Hawaii by the Empire of Japan. Some authors consider the conflict in Asia can be dated as far as 7 July 1937, beginning with the Second Sino-Japanese War between the Empire of Japan and the Republic of China, or possibly the 19 September 1931, beginning with the Japanese invasion of Manchuria
In January, Japan invaded Burma, the Dutch East Indies, New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and captured Manila, Kuala Lumpur and Rabaul. After being driven out of Malaya, Allied forces in Singapore attempted to resist the Japanese during the Battle of Singapore but surrendered to the Japanese on 15 February 1942; about 130,000 Indian, British, Australian and Dutch personnel became prisoners of war.[38] The pace of conquest was rapid: Bali and Timor also fell in February

The base was attacked by 353 Japanese fighters, bombers and torpedo planes in two waves, launched from six aircraft carriers. Four U.S. Navy battleships were sunk (two of which were raised and returned to service later in the war) and the four others present were damaged. The Japanese also sank or damaged three cruisers, three destroyers, an anti-aircraft training ship and one minelayer. 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed; 2,402 men were killed and 1,282 wounded. The power station, shipyard, maintenance, and fuel and torpedo storage facilities, as well as the submarine piers and headquarters building (also home of the intelligence section) were not attacked. Japanese losses were light: 29 aircraft and five midget submarines lost, and 65 servicemen killed or wounded. One Japanese sailor was captured.
1.) In December 1941, the Japanese led a suprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. The Japanese had been slowing gaining more ground towards the United States as they took over many islands in the Pacific. The japanese continued to take over more and more islands after the attack, and they seemed unbeatable after a series of victories. However, in April of 1942, the allies bombed Tokyo and other cities and slowly, the allies turned the tide against the japanese.
1. The war culminated in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and other large aerial bombing attacks by the United States Army Air Forces, accompanied by the Soviet invasion ofManchuria on 8 August 1945, resulting in the surrender of Japan and the end of fighting during World War II on 15 August 1945. The formal and official surrender of Japan occurred aboard the battleship USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay on 2September 1945.
1. WWll was a war that lasted 6 years and involved all the worlds important nations. Including all of the great powers: eventually forming two opposing military alliances, the Allies and the Axis. It was the most widespread war in history, with more than 100 million military personnel mobilised. In a state of "total war," the major participants placed their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities at the service of the war effort, erasing the distinction between civilian and military resources. Marked by significant events involving the mass death of civilians, including the Holocaust and the only use of nuclear weapons in warfare, it was the deadliest conflict in human history,[4] resulting in 40 million to over 70 million fatalities. just think if Japan would have JUST STAYED IN THE DANG RICE FEILDS. None of this would have happend.
Japan began to attack the Pacific Ocean. They set out to conquer anything and everything in their way. The U.S. had its suspicions of an attack from the Japanese but they were not sure about the specifics. On December 7, 1941 the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor of the U.S. This lead to us entering the war. Also, Japan launched bombing raids on both British and American lands. Japan continued to take over more islands and areas such as tthe Bataan Peninsula and Burma. Tokyo and other cities were bombed in Japan. This did little damage, but it did show that Japan was vulnerable to an attack. This opened the eyes of the Allies and also of Japan.
December 7, 1941 Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. They took the lives of many Americans and injured many along with it. Congress quickly accepted President Roosevelt's notion to begin war with Japan and their allies. The Allies were anxious to strike back in the Pacific. The Americans were in it for Pearl Harbor. Slowly, the Allies began to turn the tide of war. The Battle of Midway finally turned the tide completely. AS Japan began their assault on Nimitz the Americans let them. The Japanese planes finally struck down but it seemed as if that's what the American troops wanted. They destroyed 332 planes, four aircraft carreirs, and the one support ship. Yamamoto withdrew his crippled fleet.
On December 7, 1941 Japanese bombers, fighter planes, and kamakazees attacked Pearl Harbor and sank several American ships, including the SS Arizona. Some say that there were several Japanese mini-subs in the Harbor as well. The next day, the U.S. entered into the war.
On the 10th of December, two major British Warships were also sunk by Japanese off the coast of Malaya. Then the Japanese invaded and took over Thailand allying themselves with Japan by the 21st. Hong Kong fell on the 25th of December to the Japanese.
U.S. bases in Guam and Wake Island were also lost around this time. In January 1942 Japan invaded Burma, the Dutch East Indies, New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and captured Manila, Kuala Lumpur and Rabaul. After being driven out of Malaya, Allied forces in Singapore attempted to resist the Japanese during the Battle of Singapore but surrendered to the Japanese on 15 February 1942.
On February 19th, the Japanese attacked the city of Darwin, Austrailia, even though it was a militarily insignificant battle, it was morally devastating.
In March and April, the Japanese launched a devastating air raid attack on several British and other Allied Ships.
1. In WW11 the Unites States got a big role to fight. They were very responcible fo resources and other needs. The people on their side relied on them a lot to get their needs and wants. The base was attacked by 353 Japanese fighters, bombers and torpedo planes in two waves, launched from six aircraft carriers.188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed; 2,402 men were killed and 1,282 wounded.
The attack came as a profound shock to the American people and led directly to the American entry into World War II in both the Pacific and European theaters. The following day the United States declared war on Japan. Domestic support for isolationism, which had been strong, disappeared. Clandestine support of Britain was replaced by active alliance. Subsequent operations by the U.S. prompted Germany and Italy to declare war on the U.S. on December 11, which was reciprocated by the U.S. the same day.
Despite numerous historical precedents for unannounced military action, the lack of any formal warning by Japan, particularly while negotiations were still apparently ongoing, led President Franklin D. Roosevelt to proclaim December 7, 1941, "a date which will live in infamy"
