The Scientific Revolution (Blog #8)

In the mid-1500's, scientists began to question accepted beliefs and make new theories based on experimentation. Such questioning led to the development of the scientific method still used today.

Your assignment is to answer the following three questions from chapter 22, section 1 on pages 623-628:

1. Why do you think historians use the word revolution to describe this period of change?
2. In what way did Copernicus's theory contradict religious views?
3. How was the scientific method of exploring ideas different from looking to history for answers?

Due: Sunday 10/18/09 by no later than 11:59 p.m.

1)because many changes and advancements were being made in the scientific field
2)because all the people believed that the earth stood at the center of the uvivers and he said that the planets revolve around the sun
3)the scientific method experimented these queations not just have philosphers think bout the questions

1.Because it was a new way of thinking. Also because it was new beliefs and theories.
2.It explained how the planets orbited they way they did. But the religous scholars had different belifs. He was more over math and science than that god did it all.
3.Because it was a procedure and tests of ideas. It was step by step for new ideas and expirementation.

1.Because revolution was a new way of thinking anout the natural world.
2.It took the thinking that God created earth to the Big Bang Theory.
3.They went off of logic instead of looking at what happened in history.

1. I think that historians use the word revolution because it changed how people viewed the physical world.

2. It contradicted it because it still didnt explain why the planets orbited the way they did. People thought that the plantets revolved around the earth and people didnt know to believe that or not.

3. The scientfic method had a hypothesis and conclusion. And all the information was based on data.

1) They use it because, a revolution is a major change or starting over in some area which is what happened durring the scientific revolution.
2)His theory contridicted the religios theory because he said that the planets revolved aroung the sun but the religios theory was that the universe revolved around the earth..complete opposites.
3)scientific method experimented the questions and in history philoiphers just thought about the question and gave what they thought was a right answer.

1.) The historians used the word revolution to describe this period because it was a new way of thinking about the world.
2.) The people of Copernicus' time believed that earth was the ultimate power of the universe.
3.) The scientific method starts with a guess and an exploration, in history the answer is already written so you don't have to guess or explore for answers.

1)The historians may have used the word revolution to describe the period of change because it brought on a new way to think of the natural world.

2)The religious views was that the Earth was the center of the universe and everything revovled around it. Copernicus's theory contradicted it by stating that the sun was the center of the universe and everything revolved around it.

3)The scientific method was a logical procedure for gathering and testing ideas. It is different from looking into history because you are actually testing it out and not just going by what you read

1.) Because it is a new way of thinking qbout the natural world. And they replaced old assuptions with new theories.
2.) He thought that the sun stood at the center of the universe.
3.) They don't just look at the past they have a logical procedure for gathering and testing ideas.

1.) They used the word revolution because it was a new way of thinking about the natural world. Based upon careful observations and a willingness to question accepted beliefs.
2.) He knew that most scholers and cleagy would reject his new thory because ot contradicted their religious views.
3.) Because the next form was a hypothesis, or unproved assumptions.then they tested in an expirement or based on the data.

1.I think its because it says that the in European thought had begun, one that would change how the people viewed the physical world.

2.It contradicted by the poeple thinking that all the other planets revoled around the earth not the sun, and his theroy was that all planets revolved around the sun. So they are getting mad at him for saying something different and that god didnt make them revolve around just earth.

3.It was different because when they looked back into history they got other peoples assumptions and with the scientific method it was a logical proedure for gathering and testing ideas that proved things to be wrong or right.

1. revolution is a latin word to turn around or complete change from one consitution to another and modifiction of an existing consitution
scientific revolution is a change form one scientific belife to another.

2. his theory is that all the other planets revold around the earth. but he didnt tell anyone about his theory until his death because he thought he was going to be attack. and galileo made the teloscope and he found so many thing about the univers that went agenst the teaching of the cathlets churchs.

3. that they thought the earth is the center of the univers but copernicus found out that the planets like the earth revold around the earth. and someone did mathmatical problems and found that his theroy is true and galaleo made the teloscope and did resurch on the planets. so the scientific method they once believe became a scientfic revoultion that change from one belif to another.
